On Friday, in commemoration of the 155th anniversary of Juneteenth, Luther College hosted and filmed a mini virtual symposium featuring Guy Nave, Professor of Religion; Novian Whitsitt, Professor of English and Identity Studies; and Jacqueline Wilkie, Professor Emerita History. The faculty members addressed the history and meaning of Juneteenth, the historical context and impact of the 1921 Tulsa race riot, and reasons why much of the racial history of the U.S. remains little known by the general public.
Luther College leadership has made the decision to cancel in-person Homecoming, which had been scheduled for Oct. 9-11, 2020.
The J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation awarded a grant of $100,000 to Luther College in honor of Marriott International CEO and Luther alumnus, Arne Sorenson ’80, who recently completed his third term and final year of service on the Luther College Board of Regents. During Sorenson’s final board meeting on May 8, news of this generous grant to Luther was shared with the full board.

The director of Luther College’s Center for Sustainable Communities, Jim Martin-Schramm, will present “Solar to Storage” during the Winneshiek Energy District’s May Online Lunch from 12-1 p.m. Tuesday, May 19. During the virtual event, Martin-Schramm will discuss a new project happening at Luther that includes a new solar array and an associated battery storage solution.
