Decorah Middle School sixth grade students have been writing to pen pals from India, Italy, Greece, and China through their social studies classes taught by Lisa Witzke and Kelly Farley. They shared how they are living with COVID-19, the activities they are involved in, what they are missing during this time, and ended by sharing something special in a “show and tell” fashion.

Decorah area educators will participate in an “Educator Drive and Wave” on Tuesday, April 7 beginning at 1:30 pm. Local educators will drive through the Decorah area to wave and show how much they miss their students.
The Decorah Schools Nutrition Services team, with financial support from Decorah Bank and Trust and Decorah Rotary, on Friday distributed over 300 five-day meal packages to Decorah students.
40 students participated in the State Individual Speech contest Saturday. Out of Decorah’s 44 performances, 37 received I (excellent) ratings. Additionally, 13 students were selected as All-State performances, breaking the record yet again for the number of students nominated. Early in the season, a record 16 Large Group performances were nominated for All-State.
The Decorah Middle School 7th and 8th graders will present “A Night of Plays” on Thursday, March 12 at 7:00 p.m. in the Carrie Lee auditorium.
On February 29th, approximately forty 8th grade Decorah Middle School students participated in the Regional History Day competition held at Decorah Middle School. Eleven of the students qualified for the state competition to be held in Des Moines on April 27, 2020.
Decorah High School’s individual speech participants—coached by Gabe Twedt, Carrie Kauffman, and Molly Holkesvik—competed this past Saturday, February 29, in Monona, Iowa.
49 students participated in the contest. Out of Decorah’s 61 performances, 51 received I ratings and will continue on to the state competition which will be held March 14th at Starmont High School in Arlington, Iowa.
